Jewelry box
I had a batch of very old veneers given me, this contained some very rare timbers but alas they were small pieces only, so I designed and made this jewelry box for my wife utilizing some of these rare timbers in the design. The main box is made from Brazilian Mahogany, all the corners are dovetailed together and the top being glued to the body. The box was then cleaned down so that all faces were flush. The veneers were cut and laid up into faces before being applied to the faces, the were applied in sequence starting with the ends followed by the back/front face and finally the top. Veneers had to be cleaned back flush with adjacent faces before the next set of veneers could be applied, veneers being applied to all faces using PVA adhesive and pressure pads. After veneering the lid was then separated from the base using a 1/16 splitting saw in my router. a tray was made to fit the interior (suction fit) using 4mm thick Brazilian Mahogany this tray was also dovetailed on the corners. The box was also lined with a pale blue natural silk.
